High school football roundup: Week 12

One East County team captures an SSAA title, while the postseason begins in the FHSAA.

East County

The Out-of-Door Academy (6-5) won 33-14 over Lighthouse Private Christian Academy (4-6) at home to capture the Sunshine State Athletic Association Class 4A championship. Sophomore running back Allen Clark had touchdown runs of 25, one and 32 yards. Senior running back Jack Meyers added a 13-yard touchdown run. ODA went for two-point conversions after three of their four touchdowns, succeeding each time, and added two points on an LPCA safety in the fourth quarter. Meyers and senior linebacker Chase Taraska each had an interception, while sophomore linebacker Heath DeRusso recovered an LPCA fumble. 

Lakewood Ranch High (4-7) lost 53-6 to Venice High (9-2) in the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 4S regional quarterfinals. The Mustangs' season is now over.

Parrish Community High (7-4) lost 42-0 to Naples High (9-2) in the FHSAA Class 3S regional quarterfinals. The Bulls' season is now over. 


Sarasota

Riverview High (7-4) won 49-20 over Palmetto High (5-5) at home in the FHSAA Class 4S regional quarterfinals. Senior quarterback Braxton Thomas threw a 34-yard touchdown to senior Anthony Campbell and a 14-yard touchdown to sophomore Anthony Miller. Thomas also ran for a touchdown. Junior running back DJ Johnson ran for two touchdowns. The Rams will play Manatee High (9-2) in the regional semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 on the road. 

Booker High (7-4) won 33-17 over Fort Meade High (9-1) on the road in the FHSAA Class 2S regional quarterfinals. Senior Josiah Booker had a 72-yard rushing touchdown, a 20-yard rushing touchdown and a four-yard rushing touchdown. Sophomore Takurian Smith had a one-yard rushing touchdown. Senior Omarion Patterson had a 66-yard rushing touchdown. Junior Abraham Brown and senior Noah Obaseki each had an interception. The Tornadoes will play Lemon Bay High (10-1) in the regional semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 on the road. 

Cardinal Mooney High (8-2) had a bye week. The Cougars will play Lakeland Christian (7-3) in the FHSAA Class 1S regional semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at home.
