Man died while in custody of Sarasota Police Department

The death of a man in custody of the Sarasota Police Department early Sunday morning is now under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Shortly before 4 a.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Devonshire Lane to investigate a report of a suspicious person. The subject, a 50-year-old white male, died after being taken into custody. 

As is standard protocol, the FDLE is investigating the death. Under Marsy’s Law, the subject’s identity is protected, and no further information can be released at this time.
