High school football roundup: FHSAA regional semifinals

All three Sarasota-area teams are still alive after wins Friday night.

Cardinal Mooney High (9-2) won 54-14 against Lakeland Christian (7-4) at home in Class 1S. Senior running back Carson Beach had three goal line touchdown runs. Senior quarterback Michael Valentino threw two touchdowns, one to senior Zy'marion Lang for 50 yards and one to sophomore Joshua Henderson for 37 yards. Sophomore quarterback Devin Mignery also threw two touchdowns, one to sophomore Bo O'Daniel for 18 yards and one to sophomore Mason Jordan for 23 yards. Sophomore linebacker Duke Bergstrom had an interception return for a touchdown. The Cougars will next host Victory Christian Academy (6-5) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in the regional finals. 

Riverview High (8-4) won 35-30 against Manatee High (9-3) on the road in Class 4S. Senior running back DJ Johnson rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns, the longest coming on a 45-yard run. Senior quarterback Braxton Thomas thew a touchdown and ran for a one-yard touchdown. The Rams will next hit the road to play Venice High (10-2) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in the regional finals. 

Booker High (8-4) won 14-0 against Lemon Bay High (10-2) on the road in Class 2S. Senior running back Ahmad Hunter had a three-yard touchdown run. Senior receiver Josiah Booker had an 18-yard touchdown run. Sophomore safety Karaijus Hayes had an interception. The Tornadoes will next hit the road to play Bishop Verot High (11-1) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in the regional finals.
