At its meeting Tuesday, the Sarasota County School Board voted Karen Rose to the position of board chair and Tim Enos to the role of vice chair.

Bridget Ziegler moved to nominate Vice Chair Karen Rose for the role of chair, with the board voting unanimously to approve the nomination.

Board member Robyn Marinelli then moved to nominate board member Tim Enos for the role of vice chair, with the board also voting unanimously in favor of his appointment.

“It’s an honor to serve as chair, and I am very appreciative of the opportunity,” Rose announced.

A majority of public commenters favored the appointment of board member Tom Edwards in the capacity of either chair or vice chair.

“I think that the best way to demonstrate that you are truly serious about keeping politics out and working with everybody together for the best interest of our students, is to elect Tom vice chair,” said Mary Holmes, a special education teacher at Oak Park Elementary.

Ziegler received a plaque of appreciation manufactured by students at Suncoast Technical College, thanking her for her work as chair.

“I know that there is a lot that many people don’t necessarily see what takes place as a chairman, but it’s been an honor to serve, and this last year was definitely a roller coaster," Ziegler said. “I feel very confident we’re in some good steady waters and I’m really looking forward to the years ahead.”
