Waste Management will be collecting Hurricane Idalia debris in an effort to help Longboat Key residents, according to a release from Susan Phillips, assistant to the town manager and public information officer.

Yard waste will be picked up today, Sept. 6. Waste Management asks that residents bundle anything that is possible, and cut branches down to smaller sizes.

Also starting today, a claw truck will be operating on the island, clearing excess waste on areas that had greater flood impacts such as the Village, Buttonwood and St. Judes. The claw truck will be out Wednesday and Thursday, and then WM will assess whether more days are necessary.

Regular trash service will run on Thursday, Sept. 7. Along with this, the trucks will pick up two larger items per scheduled pickup per day per residence. These items could include carpets and rugs.

Residents can direct questions to Public Works at 941-316-1988.
