Photo by Lori SaxIt’s Girls Inc.’s mission to teach girls to be strong, smart and bold, and during its 34th annual Celebration Luncheon April 3 at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, it honored three women who embody all of those values.
Penny Hill, Kim Ogilvie and Rochelle Curley each received awards from the organization, and shared their stories of challenges and triumph — and the lessons they learned along the way — with the more than 450 guests in attendance. Girls Inc. also recognized the Baltimore Orioles with its inaugural Community Partner Award to recognize the contributions businesses play in helping it fulfill its mission.
Co-chaired by Dr. LaShawn Frost, Melissa Perrin, Mary Pat Radford and Zuleima Martinez, the event welcomed guests to enjoy a bit of shopping at the Dream Harbor before they sat down to lunch.
But the highlight, as always, was the performance of the ladies from Girls Inc. themselves as they entertained the crowd with their rendition of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
