Michael Windham has joined Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College of Art and Design as deputy director of museum services and business operations.

In his new role, Windham is responsible for overseeing SAM's operations, including budgeting and financial controls.

Prior to joining SAM, Windham was general manager at the Classical Theatre of Harlem, where he oversaw day-to-day operations and long-range strategies.

A graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Design and Production, Windham brings more than two decades of arts management experience to his new position.

His career includes a long stint at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, where he handled special events, performances and touring engagements while honing his skills in resource management and client relations.

“Michael’s wealth of knowledge and demonstrated leadership in arts management make him an invaluable addition to the museum and our entire community,” said Virginia Shearer, SAM executive director, in a statement. “We look forward to working with him to create more opportunities to share joyful, meaningful experiences with more people through our engaging exhibitions and programs.”

“Through my role at Sarasota Art Museum, I can proactively strengthen a place that is positively affecting people of all backgrounds and creating a better culture for us all," Windham said in a statement.

SAM is Ringling College of Art and Design’s venue for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art. It is Sarasota’s only museum solely focused on contemporary artists and their work.
