Trash, recycling schedules to shift next week for Labor Day

Offices of the city of Sarasota and Sarasota County will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

There will be no residential garbage, recycling, or yard waste pickup on Monday. 

Monday collection will occur on Tuesday, and Tuesday collection will occur on Wednesday. 

For city residents, Thursday and Friday collection will not be interrupted.

For residents outside the city limits, all pickups throughout the week will be delayed one day, including Wednesday collection to occur on Thursday, Thursday’s collections on Friday and Friday collections on Saturday.


City of Sarasota

The Bay Runner will operate on its regular hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Holiday hours of operation at city of Sarasota facilities will vary:

  • Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Lido Pool, 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
  • Payne Park Tennis Center, 2050 Adams Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, 1845 34th St., will be open from 6-10 a.m.
  • Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail - The Box Office will be closed.

The City Commission meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 9 a.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 1565 First St.


Sarasota County
  • Closures in Sarasota County on Monday, Sept. 2 include:
  • All Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources offices and facilities.
  • Sarasota County University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension and Sustainability offices.
  • Sarasota County Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
  • Breeze regular bus and Plus services.
  • Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources recreation facilities, including the Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range.
  • All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection Centers.
  • Resilient SRQ Housing Recovery case managers will be unavailable in person, phone or email. Case managers will answer any pending voicemails or emails the following business day.
  • Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.
  • The Florida Department of Health - Sarasota County.
  • Sarasota County Tax Collector's office.
  • Sarasota County Property Appraiser's office.
  • Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller.
