Following a months-long investigation, a Bradenton man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on Feb. 29 in Sarasota.

On Wednesday, Devan Shaun Carroll, 35, was apprehended by Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies at his residence. He is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, a first-degree felony, and is being held in Manatee County Jail.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. at the intersection of Cocoanut Avenue and Second Street when a silver Ford F-150 truck struck 81-year-old Pamela Etsinger as she was crossing the street after celebrating her birthday at the opera. Video footage shows the truck hitting Etsinger, after which the driver fled the scene.

Approximately 18 hours after the crash, the Manatee County deputies located and seized the truck from a residence in Palmetto. An investigation confirmed that Carroll had been driving the vehicle, having been pulled over by officers just hours before the incident.

Carroll will be extradited to the Sarasota County Jail.
