Students at Pine View School were evacuated from classrooms Tuesday morning after a bomb threat was received, school district officials say.
In a notice to parents late Tuesday morning, school officials confirmed a bomb threat had been received by the school. "As a precautionary measure and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, faculty, and staff, we have initiated the appropriate safety protocol by evacuating the school building and initiating a lockdown while the premises are being thoroughly searched."
The Sarasota County School District added that police believe the threat was "noncredible."
As of 1:21 p.m., the district's Safety and Security Department had lifted the evacuation but the school was still under a "secured perimeter," district spokeswoman Kelsey Whealy said.
By 3:05 p.m., "The district’s Safety & Security department gave the all clear, the secured perimeter has been lifted," Whealy said in a statement.
The incident also may be connected to other false alarms across the U.S. "Law enforcement has indicated that there are reports of false threats against schools nationwide happening today," the statement said.
Parents of students were urged not to come to the school. "As a reminder and per protocol, the school and students are inaccessible during a lockdown. Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of everyone involved, and we will let you know as soon as it is safe to resume normal activities," the statement said.
