Longboat Harbour residents spent Super Bowl Sunday watching the game on the big screen in the condo rec hall for its annual watch party.
The doors opened at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 11. Karen Pashkow and Connie DiMaggio organized the party.
The event was sponsored by the Longboat Harbour Men’s Club. President of the Men’s Club Mark Spillers led the pre-game pool and 50/50 raffle at halftime. People could participate in the pre-game pool in the morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or an hour before the game.
The food spread had all the classic barbecue favorites: chili, brisket sandwiches, coleslaw and brownies. Pashkow said she tried to stick to the theme as much as possible. She made Rice-A-Roni, drawing the connection between the San Francisco 49ers and the dish famously known for being the “San Francisco Treat.” For the Kansas City Chiefs connection, they provided Russell Stover candy, who is from Kansas City, for dessert.
The crowd was split between the two teams. Most people picked their team based on a connection to a family and their own team.
As a Baltimore native, David Silberman backed the 49ers, due to the Chiefs beating the Baltimore Ravens which set up the path for their win at the Super Bowl.
“I would have been at the Super Bowl right now if it wasn't for those Chiefs,” Silberman said.
Residents enjoyed talking with their neighbors about which team will be the 2024 champions.
