Thanks to another $5 million in private donations raised by the Bay Park Conservancy, the Patterson Foundation has donated a third $1 million gift to The Bay, the city’s 53-acre bayfront park.

The funds will be used to operate, maintain and program the first 10-acre phase of The Bay, which opened in October 2022.

The Patterson Foundation’s challenge match includes $1 million for every $5 million raised from private philanthropy, community sources and matches.

The $24 million challenge has raised more than $15 million since 2021, when the foundation announced a commitment of up to an additional $4 million in matching funds to catalyze private donations to develop and operate the first phase of the park. The challenge grant period runs through 2024.

In 2019-21, The Patterson Foundation donated $5 million to support the initial $20 million challenge campaign to start The Bay Park.
