Overnight July 4 shooting leaves one dead

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a fatal overnight shooting that occurred near the intersection of Dixie Avenue and 24th Street shortly after 1 a.m. on Thursday, July 4. 

One adult victim died from the injuries sustained in the shooting. According to a news release issued by the SPD, the incident appears to be isolated and the investigation is ongoing.
