Suspect arrested in Miami for deadly July 4 shooting

The Sarasota Police Department has announced the apprehension of the man suspected in an early-morning shooting on July 4 in which an unnamed adult was killed near the intersection of Dixie Avenue and 24th Street.

Kevin Maurice Holloway, 54, was arrested in Miami with the cooperation of the Miami and Miami-Dade police departments.

The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. July 4.

On Thursday morning, the SPD reported it was searching for Holloway, who was considered armed and dangerous and was last seen driving a 2011 Nissan Altima. He was apprehended by Thursday evening in Miami.

In a news release, the SPD thanked the Miami law enforcement agencies for their assistance.

“This case highlights our commitment to community safety and the importance of inter-agency cooperation.” Said SPD Chief Rex Troche in a statement. "Thank you to all the officers and detectives involved for your hard work and dedication.”

Holloway faces charges of murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of aggravated assault.
