The Longboat Key Police Department, Fire Department and Public Works Department enjoyed gourmet grilled cheeses on May 24. The Rotary Club of Longboat Key sponsored the lunch as its annual May event in recognition of all the hard work these workers put in for the community.
There was a variety of gourmet options from the truck, such as the "Jam" grilled cheese with goat cheese, basil pesto and blueberry jam and the "Spinner" grilled cheese with spinach artichoke dip, parmesan and red pepper. Each grilled cheese came with chips, homemade tomato soup and a beverage.
The favorite among the group was the "Caprese" grilled cheese with mozzarella, tomato, pesto and balsamic reduction.
The Rotary Club picked the grilled cheese truck because of the group’s love for “comfort food.” Rotarian Nancy Rozance said it was the perfect way to relax on the hot summer day.
“We are always talking about how much the Rotary Club does for us,” said Fire Department Logistics Officer Tara Pavgouzas. “We appreciate how much they care about us and we know we can always count on them to make us smile.”
