Motorcyclist killed in Fruitville Road crash

An Ellenton man was killed May 30 when a vehicle pulled in front of his motorcycle on Fruitville Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators said a sedan driven by a 35-year-old Sarasota man was coming out of a driveway access just east of Paramount Drive, and was attempting to cross the westbound lanes to make a left turn onto Fruitville Road shortly before 9 p.m. 

The sedan crossed the westbound lanes directly in front of an approaching motorcycle driven by a 49-year-old Ellenton man, the accident report said.  

The vehicles collided, knocking the rider from his motorcycle. He died at the scene, troopers said. 

The driver of the sedan received minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
