Most Sarasota County offices to close for Thanksgiving holiday

Most Sarasota County Government offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The holiday will also affect other county services. 

On Thanksgiving Day, the Breeze Transit administration, ticket offices and standard routes will be closed.

  • The 76 Flyer will operate regular service.
  • The 77 Siesta Islander will end service at 8 p.m.
  • Breeze OnDemand will operate modified hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Nov. 29, Breeze administration and ticket offices will be closed but all routes will operate normally. 

  • Libraries and the Historical Resources Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29.
  • Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County will also be closed Wednesday, Nov. 27.
  • All Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources facilities will be closed Thanksgiving day. 
  • Knight Trail Park hours will be closed from Monday, Nov. 25 through Thursday, Nov. 28.


Solid waste collection 

All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center, and the Chemical Collection Centers will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28.

The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop at 8750 Bee Ridge Road and the Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center at 250 S. Jackson Road will also be closed Friday, Nov. 29.

Curbside collection services for trash, recycling and yard waste will run as follows: 

  • Monday to Wednesday, Nov. 25, 26, and 27: no changes
  • Thursday, Nov. 28: no collection services
  • Friday, Nov. 29: collection for Thursday customers
  • Saturday, Nov. 30: collection for Friday customers

Because collection times vary, residents should place materials at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of pickup.
