Finalists determined for new east Bradenton K-8 school name

The School District of Manatee County is seeking the public's input on the final list of names for the school being constructed off Uihlein Road.

The School Board of Manatee County has chosen finalist names for the new East County K-8 school. 

The school board whittled the list of 135 nominations down to four. 

The finalists, in alphabetical order, are Franke Howze, Tim Kolbe, Lake Manatee and Liberty. 

The School District of Manatee County is seeking input from the public on choosing a final name for the K-8 school, which is being built on approximately 40 acres of land off Uihlein Road and Academic Avenue. 

To provide a comment on the name finalists, go to ManateeSchools.net and click on the "New School Name" tab under "District Top Stories."

The deadline for comments is midnight Oct. 28. 

The school board will choose a name at a special meeting Oct. 29.
