High school football roundup: Sept. 13

Six Sarasota and East County teams were victorious Friday night.

Sarasota

Booker High (3-1) won 70-43 against Carrollwood Day School (1-3) at home. The Tornadoes led 37-7 before the Patriots attempted a comeback, getting within 37-30 at halftime before Booker broke the game open again in the second half. Freshman wide receiver Tyree Mannings Jr. had a 99-yard kick return touchdown in the second quarter. Booker next hits the road to play Riverview High (1-3) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20. 

Cardinal Mooney High (4-0) won 72-0 over Leto High on the road. Sophomore running backs Connail Jackson and Ashton Kelly each had two rushing touchdowns. The Cougars will next play Bishop Verot High (3-1) at home at 7 p.m. Sept. 20. 

Sarasota High (2-2) won 34-6 against Gibbs High (1-3) at home. Junior running back Eli Litteral had two touchdown runs. The Sailors next host Ida Baker High (0-3) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20. 

Sarasota Christian School (3-2) won 42-32 against Cambridge Christian High (0-4) at home. Junior quarterback Ben Milliken threw six touchdown passes, three to junior wideout Travis Miller. The Blazers will next hit the road to play The Out-of-Door Academy (4-0) at 7 p.m. Sept. 20. 

Riverview High (1-3) lost 35-7 to Berkeley Prep (2-2) at home. The Rams next host Booker High (3-1) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20. 


East County

Lakewood Ranch High (3-1) won 28-22 against Southeast High (2-2) on the road. Senior running back Cullen McRae had a five-yard touchdown run. Junior running back Colton Dempsey had a 30-yard touchdown run. Junior quarterback Liam Fernandez threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to senior Jamarrion Roden and had a 49-yard touchdown run. The Mustangs have a bye week Sept. 20 before hosting Lennard High (4-0) at 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 

Parrish Community High (3-1) lost 21-14 to Palmetto High (4-0) at home. Bulls running back Jermaine Edwards had 68 rushing yards and a touchdown. Parrish will next play Braden River High (1-3) on the road at 7 p.m. Sept. 20. 

Braden River High (1-3) won 35-0 against Bayshore High (0-4) at home. Pirates junior running back Julian Brown had 12-yard and one-yard touchdown runs. Senior quarterback Lucas Despot threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Jaron Fields and ran for scores of 33 yards and five yards. Braden River will host Parrish Community High (3-1) at 7 p.m. Sept. 20. 

The Out-of-Door Academy (4-0) had a bye week. ODA will host Sarasota Christian School (3-2) at 7 p.m. Sept. 20.
