High school football roundup: Sept. 20

There were big offensive performances from area teams as the season hits its midpoint.

The Out-of-Door Academy (5-0) won 36-31 over Sarasota Christian School (3-3) at home. ODA junior running back Allen Clark ran for 236 yards and three touchdowns. Clark also threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to senior Carson Fisher. Junior fullback Aengus Doody had ODA's other touchdown, a goal line run. Sarasota Christian quarterback Ben Milliken threw four touchdown passes: two to junior Travis Miller, one to junior Justin Brock and one to junior Colton Loftus. ODA will next hit the road to play Santa Fe Catholic (2-3) at 7 p.m. Sept. 27, while Sarasota Christian will have a bye Sept. 27 before going to Gateway Charter (0-6) at 7 p.m. Oct. 4. 

Parrish Community High (4-1) won 35-0 against Braden River High (1-4) on the road. Bulls senior running back Jermaine Edwards ran for four touchdowns, and junior Keyon Maxwell ran for one. Parrish will have a bye on Sept. 27 and next host Winter Haven High (1-3) at 7 p.m. Oct. 4. Braden River will next host Miami High (3-2) at 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 

Lakewood Ranch High (3-1) had a bye. The Mustangs will next host Lennard High (5-0) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27. 


Sarasota 

Riverview High (2-3) won 41-30 against Booker High (3-2) at home. Rams junior quarterback Anthony Miller threw two touchdown passes to freshman receiver Toryeon James and ran for a touchdown. Rams junior Isaiah Belt had 100 rushing yards and a touchdown. Rams junior Yashua Edwards had 85 rushing yards and a touchdown. Rams junior Jamaun Thompson had a 70-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Booker senior quarterback Ryan Downes threw three touchdown passes, two to junior Tyren Wortham and one to freshman Tyree Mannings Jr. Booker senior running back Rashawn Peterson had a touchdown run. Riverview will next travel to Sarasota High (3-2) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27. Booker will have a bye Sept. 27 before hosting Sebring High (2-2) at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4. 

Cardinal Mooney High (5-0) won 49-28 against Bishop Verot High (3-2) at home. Cougars junior quarterback Devin Mignery threw two touchdown passes, one to junior Bo O'Daniel and one to senior Marcus Galloway, and ran for two touchdowns. Sophomore running back Connail Jackson ran for 215 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore running back Ashton Kelly also ran for a touchdown. Junior linebacker K.J. Brown had an interception. The Cougars will next travel to Lakewood High (2-3) at 7 p.m. Sept. 27.

Sarasota High (3-2) won 40-17 against Ida Baker High (0-4) at home. Freshman quarterback Hudson West had five touchdown passes, four to junior tight end Scotty Wells. The Sailors will next play Riverview High (2-3) at home at 7 p.m. Sept. 27.
