Manatee County commissioners approved a net budget of $1,328,221,815 to provide services to citizens in FY 2025, which starts on Oct. 1.

The gross budget was approved at $3,266,196,227, which includes services, operations and reserves. The budget was approved during a special work session held on Sept. 24 at the Manatee County Administration Building.

During the meeting, commissioners also approved a countywide millage rate of 6.0826% and a $5,170,463,291 Capital Improvement Plan.

The millage was reduced by .15 mills from FY 2024, and approximately $735 million of the gross budget was set aside for reserves.

Chief Financial Officer Sheila McLean said healthy reserves stabilize the county in the event of catastrophic events, help mitigate inflation and keep projects moving forward.

A few of the "highlighted projects” from the Capital Improvement Plan include the Lakewood Ranch Library’s second floor buildout, the Pickleball and Racket Center at Premier Sports Complex, stormwater rehab in River Club and the Lena Road connection between State Road 70 and State Road 64.
