All residents of Longboat Key are now being allowed to return to their homes, with certain restrictions, town officials announced Sunday.

On Saturday, town officials allowed certain workers deemed critical to the island's recovery to reenter, including healthcare agencies, insurance agents, bank staff, food purveyors, hardware stores, gas stations, condominium managers and critical staff.

All residents are now allowed to return, from 12:45-7 p.m., when a curfew will take effect. Those off the island will not be granted re-entry after 7 p.m.

Residents will need to present an identification card at the checkpoint to gain access. Entry to the island is only accessible through the south end, at New Pass Bridge.

Even though water service has been restored, a boil water notice is in effect until further notice. Intermittent water outages are to be expected, officials said, and water conservation is needed at this time.

The Longboat Key Public Works Department continues working through water supply and pressure issues, as well as restoration of wastewater capability.  Significant power outages also remain, with Florida Power & Light working to restore service.

Those returning to the island must be self-sustaining with food, water, medical supplies and safe quarters.

Official are asking residents to refrain from using 9-1-1 unless it is a true emergency.  The town’s information line is open for all other questions at 941-316-1999.

Waste Management is expected to resume services on Monday, Sept. 30.
