It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurence Russell Humphreys Parry on January 7, 2025, at the age of 86.

Laurence was the beloved husband of Valerie Margaret Parry, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to three children—Sian, Karin, and Julian—and a proud grandfather to Ashley, David, Zoe, Sophie, and Rhys.

Born and raised in North Wales, Laurence’s life was a remarkable journey that took him across the globe to London, Paris, Durban, Johannesburg, Swaziland, Memphis, and Sarasota. A visionary and innovator, Laurence played a pivotal role in the development of Holiday Inns in Southern Africa and went on to become a successful franchisee for both Holiday Inns and Denny’s Restaurants.

A passionate sportsman, Laurence had a lifelong love for tennis, golf, rugby, soccer, and especially cricket. In 1984, he founded the Sarasota International Cricket Club, a testament to his dedication to the sport and its community. Laurence was also an avid traveler who embraced diverse cultures and adventures, living his life to the fullest.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the Sarasota International Cricket Club, 7401 University Parkway, Bradenton, FL 34202. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Laurence’s memory.

Laurence’s joie de vivre, humor, and humility left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His legacy of love, family, and hiraeth for Wales will forever live in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace, his memory cherished always.
