Work to link underground utility service to the new site of Caragiulo’s Italian American eatery – under construction nearby – has prompted the closure to traffic of Osprey Avenue between Main Street and Ringling Boulevard.

According to a right-of-way permit granted by the city, allowing private contractor Wolff Construction to accomplish the work, the one-block downtown stretch could remain closed through May. The permit describes the work as a “water and sewer crossing.’’ Work began on April 14, according to a city spokeswoman. Another building permit provides for work to connect gas lines to the site.

The restaurant is constructing its new, 4,300 square-foot location a half-block to the east of the intersection, at 1833 Ringling Blvd.

When complete, the restaurant will move out of its location in the Mira Mar building at 69 S. Palm Ave.

Roadway signs along Ringling Boulevard east and west of the intersection with Osprey Avenue warn drivers of work ahead.
