Following a year where the Sarasota area got hit by three tropical weather systems in 65 days, Sarasota County is reminding residents to remain vigilant and prepare for the 2025 hurricane season.

The county will host a free community conversations session on hurricane preparedness from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Riverview High School. Local, regional and national officials will be on hand along with representatives from the National Weather Service and the Florida Division of Emergency Management to provide information on best practices.

Those practices include personal and home preparation, evacuation procedures, shelter options and special needs, vital resources, what to expect from national forecasting models this year and more.

Registration is encouraged and can be completed at the county’s website at SCGov.net.
