Sarasota County Beach cleanup days set for six sites in May

Teen volunteers or just anyone interested in seeing cleaner beaches can take part in the fifth-annual Beach Blast Trifecta, sponsored by Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources.

The weekend-long event takes place at three beaches in south Sarasota County and three in north Sarasota County — explaining the trifecta portion of the event title.

Anyone attending three of the events — and that’s possible based on the event’s timing — is eligible to win a prize.

The north county dates, times and places are:

  • 5-7 p.m., May 2 at Ted Sperling Park, 190 Taft Drive, South Lido Key
  • 8-10 a.m., May 3 at Siesta Beach, 948 Beach Road, Siesta Key
  • 9-11 a.m. May 4 at Turtle Beach Park, 8918 Midnight Pass Road, Siesta Key
  • The south county dates, times and places are:
  • 5-7 p.m. May 2 at Manasota Beach, 8570 Manasota Key Road,  Englewood
  • 8-10 a.m. May 3 at Brohard Beach, 1900 Harbor Drive South, Venice
  • 8-10 a.m. May 4 at North Jetty Beach Park, 1000 South Casey Key Road, Nokomis.

Students can fulfill requirements for community service hours before the end of the school year.
