A community meeting will offer an update on the Circus Trail Extension and allow for public input on Wednesday, March 5, at The Harvest Sarasota, 3650 17th St.
The meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will include a brief overview presentation of the Circus Trail Extension followed by an open house with an opportunity to interact with the project team and ask questions.
The purpose of the project is to create a trail connection for bicyclists, walkers and other activity users. The proposed trail would run along the east side of Circus Boulevard from approximately one-fourth mile south of Bobby Jones Golf Club and continue approximately three-fourths of a mile to the northeast corner of the golf course to 17th Street Park, which is owned by Sarasota County.
This trail extension will create key connections within both the shared-use non-motorized trail and Gulf Coast Trail networks.
“This project is an opportunity to strengthen our residents’ connectivity to and usage of one of our most cherished nature paths,” said Sarasota Chief Transportation Planner Alvimarie Corales in a news release. “By gaining insight from our community, the extension and subsequent improvements will come from a holistic approach and ultimately satisfy the goals put forth by our Transportation Master Plan.”
Input from the public meeting will be considered for the 30% design portion for the proposed trail. The current project planning phase is scheduled for completion in summer 2025.
Meeting materials will be available on the project website beginning Wednesday, Feb. 26 at SarasotaFL.gov/CircusTrailExtension.
