90-year-old man dies in SR 70 crash

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a 90-year-old Lakewood Ranch man sustained serious injuries Wednesday at approximately 8:20 a.m. when he pulled his sedan in front of an SUV on State Road 70 near its intersection with River Club Boulevard.

The FHP has not released the names of the drivers involved in the accident.

A 33-year-old Bradenton woman was driving the SUV, which was traveling east, approaching a green light on S.R. 70. The Lakewood Ranch man was sitting at a red light on River Club Boulevard, when he pulled in front of the oncoming SUV against the red traffic signal.

The Lakewood Ranch man sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Bradenton woman sustained no injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
