The Braden River High girls soccer team defeated Charlotte 3-1 in a Class 4A-District 11 quarterfinal Jan. 14. Carly Provan scored three minutes into the match to give the host Lady Pirates a 1-0 lead. Fifth-seeded Charlotte tied the game 1-1 in the 17th minute. Braden River regained the lead on Abigail Holmes' goal in the 54th minute. Braden River goalkeeper Katerina Elliott made several key saves in the final five minutes and Provan added a goal with five seconds remaining in stoppage time to preserve the win for the Lady Pirates. With the win, Braden River will travel to top-seed Lakewood Ranch for a district semifinal Jan. 16. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

The Out-of-Door Academy boys and girls soccer teams both notched victories over Sarasota Military Academy Jan. 8 on Senior Night. The Lady Thunder opened the night with a 4-1 victory over the Lady Eagles. Carly Hunter, Alli Gentile, Alyssa Mason and Juliet Onufrak each scored a goal for ODA. Hunter, Onufrak and Katie Lang were each credited with an assist. Lauren Gable scored the lone goal for SMA. Lady Eagles goalkeeper Ellie Waskom had 15 saves. The ODA boys soccer team followed up with a 2-1 victory of its own. Senior Hunter Clarke scored both goals for the Thunder. Goalkeeper Bryan Kirshe had seven saves. Logan Moriarty scored the lone goal for SMA. Eagles goalkeeper Garrett Ashley had six saves.
